A Fidelity ADT home security package includes core alarm hardware, 24/7 armed response monitoring, and often medical emergency services. The basic kit typically provides an 8-zone control panel, multiple passive infrared sensors (PIRs), door contacts, and fixed panic buttons.

Higher-tier packages expand on this with smart home control via mobile apps and integration for advanced features. All packages are built around a monthly monitoring service agreement, which is the mechanism that connects your property to the national response network.

Core Equipment: What Comes in the Basic Fidelity ADT Kit?

Fidelity ADT packages, particularly those offered as a free rental system for new customers, standardise the initial equipment. While specific components can vary; the standard issue generally includes:

  • 8-Zone Control Panel: This is the central processing unit of the system, capable of monitoring up to eight distinct areas or sensor types within your home.

  • Passive Infrared Sensors (PIRs): These sensors detect the body heat and movement of an intruder within a range of up to 12 meters.

  • Magnetic Door Contacts: Two contacts for main doors or windows are standard.

  • Fixed Panic Buttons: The kit typically includes one or two fixed panic buttons for immediate activation of an emergency response.

  • Internal Siren: A 110-decibel siren is designed to disorient intruders and alert occupants and neighbours to the breach.

The entry-level kit is engineered to cover the most common entry points and high-traffic areas in a typical South African home.

Fidelity ADT Package Tiers: SecureHome vs. SecureConnect

SecureHome is the entry-level smart solution. It enables you to interact with your alarm system remotely via the SecureHome mobile app. This functionality is layered onto a standard alarm panel, like the IDS X-Series, using a GPRS communication device.

SecureConnect is the more advanced offering, transforming the alarm system into a comprehensive smart home hub. It allows for full home automation, giving you control over not just the alarm but also lights, gates, and even appliances through the SecureConnect app. This tier often uses a more advanced panel, like the DSC NEO, and supports the integration of CCTV cameras for live viewing and video verification.

Advanced Features: Smart Home and IoT Integration

The SecureConnect package is where true Internet of Things (IoT) integration occurs. This system leverages GPRS technology, which replaces older radio transmitters for a more reliable, always-on connection to the monitoring centre.

The platform is modular, allowing for the addition of various smart devices over time. You can start with basic alarm control and later add components to manage lighting, gate motors, and view CCTV footage. The system is managed through the Alarm.com app, which allows for the creation of custom rules and schedules to automate home functions without manual input.

Essential Add-ons: Outdoor Beams, CCTV, and Electric Fencing

Perimeter security is the first line of defence, and Fidelity ADT packages are designed to integrate with these critical outdoor systems.

  • Outdoor Security Beams: These create an invisible barrier around your property. If a beam is broken, the alarm is triggered before an intruder reaches the house itself.

  • CCTV Surveillance Integration: Fidelity ADT offers CCTV packages with 4 or 8 channel DVRs.

  • Electric Fencing: An existing or new electric fence can be linked to your alarm system.

While not typically included in the basic kit, outdoor beams, CCTV cameras, and electric fence monitoring are the most common and effective add-ons.

Fidelity ADT Pricing and Monthly Monitoring Fees

Pricing is structured around an initial hardware cost, which may be subsidised or offered as a free rental, and a recurring monthly fee for monitoring and armed response. Authorised dealers often run promotions offering a free alarm system when signing a new 36-month contract.

Monthly fees can range from approximately R364 for linking an existing alarm to higher amounts depending on the package and additional services selected. For example, monthly monitoring and response for a standard house can be in the range of R400 to R1000. CCTV monitoring carries its own separate monthly fees, starting at around R75 for the first camera.

Choosing the Right Package for Your Home

Selecting the correct package depends entirely on your operational requirements and budget.

  • For Basic Intrusion Detection: The standard rental kit linked to armed response is sufficient.

  • For Remote Control and Convenience: The SecureHome package is the logical upgrade. It adds the ability to manage your alarm remotely, which is useful for granting access or ensuring the system is armed when you are away.

  • For Full Automation and High-Level Security: The SecureConnect package is for homeowners who want to integrate their security with a wider smart home ecosystem.

Your choice directly impacts your daily interaction with the system and its capability to provide information beyond a simple breach alert.

Next Steps: Technical Audit / Site Inspection

The hardware included in a standard package provides a baseline level of security. However, the optimal placement of sensors and the integration of perimeter security devices are critical for effective operation
